Original Post:

This week, the BitGive Foundation is delighted to announce that we will be celebrating our 2nd Anniversary with a special online auction. It’s been an amazing couple of years – we’ve become the first US-registered Bitcoin charity and spearheaded efforts on behalf of the generous Bitcoin community to raise funds and awareness for organizations such as Save the Children, The Water Project, and TECHO. Currently the Foundation is raising funds for earthquake relief efforts in Nepal with Medic Mobile, while developing our next initiative for “Bitcoin Charity 2.0,” growing with the technology and the industry to take giving even further.

This online auction, held in partnership with Better World Collective, is a crucial fundraising initiative for the BitGive Foundation moving forward. We hope to engage the Bitcoin community in this effort to sustain the Foundation itself as we continue to facilitate the generous spirit of the Bitcoin community and to demonstrate the social impact of bitcoin and blockchain technology.

We’ve already collected a few exciting early donation items, including three autographed copies of Mastering Bitcoin by Andreas M. Antonopoulos, donated by Zapchain; artwork by Bitcoin artist Caitlyn Mello; items from Overstock and Gyft, and collectible Casascius coins, donated by Michael Perklin of CryptoCurrency Certification Consortium.

“C4 is thrilled to support BitGive in its mission to provide charitable offerings to those in need,” says Perklin. “Casascius coins have served as an iconic emblem of Bitcoin since the network’s earliest days, so we’re proud to provide these pieces of Bitcoin history to BitGIve’s auction in the hope that they further BitGive’s mission.”

For the next few weeks, we’ll be collecting donations of items and services for the online auction from the Bitcoin community. We hope that you will consider making a contribution. All donations will be acknowledged with a tax-deductible receipt and our thanks during our social media campaign over the coming weeks. We encourage companies, organizations and private individuals to explore this fun site for ideas and then donate items or services easily with our online donation form.

Bidding is expected to commence in early July and will run for two weeks, so be sure to follow our campaign on Twitter @BitGiveOrg & #BitGiveAuction for on-going auction updates and more information. We’ll also be doing an AMA on Zapchain on June 29th – please join us with your questions, comments and suggestions!
